GAS PRICES AND YOUR VEHICLE’S FUEL ECONOMY

May 1, 2022 | Gas Prices

Are gas prices giving your heart a run for its money?

Have heart palpitations at the gas pump? You’re not alone, and so are we. With increasing gas prices around for the foreseeable future, keeping your vehicle’s fuel economy at its highest is critical. Let’s take some time to look at how we can prepare our vehicle for the expensive road ahead, and maximize its fuel efficiency in the face of gas price increases.

3 ways to make the most of your gasoline!

Here are some helpful tools for stretching out the range on your gas tank:

Speed kills: Or, in this case, the lack of it. It may feel like your gas pedal is your worst enemy at times like this. Any time the vehicle is forced to accelerate quickly, it will use more gasoline. Coasting is your friend, as well as using cruise control where possible. This will allow the vehicle to take a break from burning through gas and also your wallet.

Vehicle settings: Seat heaters, A/C, and any other electrical devices that are turned on will decrease gas mileage. The extra load on the engine will rob it of efficiency, as it will have to burn more gas to keep up the vehicle’s speed and keep up with the added electrical demand from the alternator.

Get the lead out. Removing any large, weighty items from the vehicle is helpful to increase fuel efficiency. Also, roof carriers left on the car will reduce fuel efficiency when not needed. They are extra weight, but they also may not be as aerodynamic as they appear to be. Extra drag makes it that much harder to get your car up to speed.
