7 Ways To Prepare Your Vehicle For Seattle’s Rainy Season

The rain is picking up, and Seattle’s weather is about to throw its best at us. Prepare for rainy roads, slick driving conditions, low visibility, foggy mornings and evenings, and increased dangerous driving conditions.

We can’t stop what mother nature has in store for us, but as the rain starts to fall and the temperatures begin to drop, it’s time to start thinking about getting your vehicle ready for winter. Here are seven ways to make sure to prepare your car or truck for whatever Mother Nature throws its way.

1. Check Your Tires

Make sure your tires have enough tread and are properly inflated. Bald tires will decrease your traction on wet roads, and underinflated tires can cause decreased fuel efficiency and handling issues.

2. Inspect Your Windshield Wipers

Now is a good time to replace your windshield wipers if they’re more than a year old. Also, make sure there are no cracks or splits in the rubber blades. Your windshield wipers are the first line of defense between you and a no visibility rainy condition.

3. Change Your Windshield Wiper Fluid

You’ll be using your windshield wipers more often in the next few months, so make sure you have plenty of windshield wiper fluid. It’s also a good idea to switch to a winter-specific formula that won’t freeze in cold weather.

4. Get an Inspection

Schedule an inspection with your mechanic before winter hits. They’ll check things like your battery, spark plugs, and belts to make sure everything is in good working order.

5. Check Your Lights

As the days get shorter, you’ll drive in more low-light conditions. Make sure your lights are clean and working properly so you can see and be seen.

6. Keep an Emergency Kit in Your Car

No one likes to think about breaking down on the side of the road, but it’s always better to be prepared. Put together an emergency kit with items like jumper cables, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, and warm clothes in case you find yourself stranded.

7 . Don’t Let Your Gas Tank Fall Below Half empty

If you end up breaking down in a snowstorm, you won’t have to worry about running out of gas while waiting for help to arrive.
