The ignition wires carry a very high voltage electrical current from the ignition coil to the spark plugs. This pulse of energy can be upwards of 60,000 volts and occurs as often as several times per second – in fact these wires work so hard that you can feel the pulse shock the rubber of the wire when it travels through it. These parts should be replaced on a schedule, before they fail completely, because their performance degrades over time.
